The lower mountains of the ‘Hautes Cévennes’ boast a great diversity in landscapes, fauna and flora. Castagnols leans against the mountainous shale massif of the ‘Bougès’ near the ‘Mont-Lozère’, comprised of granite. Old trails cross numerous hamlets and peaceful valleys, with pure air and small streams. Guided by these paths, you will come across mighty forests of chestnut and beech, and will go back centuries in discovery of the astonishing work of the Cevenol population to maintain their lands. Two climatic zones, atlantic and mediterranean, meet near our home. Consequently, the small area boasts a multifarious fauna and flora.
